David Jewell

Biography
David N. Jewell is a seasoned finance executive with a wealth of experience and proven track record of transformational leadership in higher education administration. His areas of expertise span strategic financial planning, change management, and fostering diverse and inclusive teams.
As the chief financial officer and senior vice president for business affairs at Cleveland State University (CSU), David leads CSU’s financial and administrative operations. During his time at CSU, David has rebuilt the Division of Business Affairs and Finance leadership team to align with the university’s strategic plan, launched a continuous improvement team, and improved financial management reporting. The university’s financial health has been fortified through innovative public-private partnership financing models and significant debt service savings under David’s leadership. David also currently serves as President of the Euclid Avenue Development Corporation, CSU’s 501(c)(3) real estate corporation which constructs, acquires, and operates facilities that promote the educational, social, psychological, and physical well-being for the students, faculty, and staff of the University.
Prior to his role at CSU, David served at the University of Wyoming as deputy vice president for finance and associate vice president for financial affairs. During his tenure, he streamlined financial operations, initiated a strategic transformation of the university’s financial and budget operations and enhanced the institution’s overall operational performance. David led comprehensive higher education resource allocation, planning, and management projects for numerous universities during his time at Huron Consulting Group. He also served as interim director of finance and administration for the Vanderbilt Law School and as a financial analyst within the provost’s office of finance and administration at Vanderbilt University.
David earned a Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor of Science in Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education. He is actively engaged in his community and serves on the boards of organizations such as the Chagrin Falls Education Foundation and The Jentel Foundation Artist Residency Program. David lives in Cleveland, Ohio, with his wife Shelley and their three school-aged children.
