Biography
Dr. Jan G. Miller is the Dean for the College of Education and Director of Online Programs at the University of West Alabama (UWA). Under the guidance of Dr. Miller, numerous new programs have been developed and launched at UWA. Most recently, an Ed.D. in Rural Education was launched in August 2018. The Ed.D. in Rural Education was the first in the nation, boasting 120 doctoral candidates from across the U.S. Prior to working at UWA, Dr. Miller served as a school leader in a P12 setting for eighteen years. She is also a former grades K, 1, 3, and 8 teacher. She serves as a board member for the University Charter School, New Schools for Alabama, and Rural Schools Collaborative (RSC). She was president of the Alabama Association of Professors of Educational Leadership (AAPEL) in 2014-16. She is a CAEP site reviewer and reviews numerous publications. Her areas of expertise include online education, online course design, grant writing, and instructional leadership.
Dr. Miller received two Teacher Quality Partnership grants from the U.S. Department of Education to strengthen the partnership with local school districts ($3.4 million [2016] and $6.4 million [2020]).
